The Ministry of Health has refused to clarify whether the number of COVID cases “at this time” in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are linked to clusters.
The Government appears to be hiding in secrecy about the numbers of COVID in SVG after accusations it has “dropped the ball” on the crisis.
There are currently 827 cases, of which 686 are local without recent travel history.
Minister for Health the Hon. St. Clair Prince rejected the “community transmission” label, saying that the situation in the country does not meet the World Health Organisation definition.
The Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simone Keizer-Beache has been saying that whilst she has been able to link most cases to clusters, it has not been possible to link all of them.
This has forced many to ask where the illness has been contracted, and whether COVID-19 is, in fact, circulating within the country or within certain communities.
The fact that the Ministry of Health is remaining so tight-lipped on the situation could be the Gonsalves Government doesn’t wish it’s people to know the full extent of the crisis, especially given that just three months ago, it was claiming it had handled the crisis well.
