Everyone, or so we are led to believe, is equal before the law. But here in Vincy the reality is different. If you support Ralph and Camillo and all their friends, you are different, you’re above the law.
We’ve seen the Prime Minister give a thinly veiled defence of his own Senator Ashelle Morgan and the Assistant Director of Public Prosecution, Karim Nelson, both of whom are subjects of an investigation into a suspected shooting in April this year.
We also saw the Speaker of the House of Assembly, silence the Leader of the Opposition when he tried to have the situation with Senator Morgan addressed.
This is what we are used to, when one of their own is compromised, they kick into action and protect the culprit at all costs, with no regards for laws and ethics.
The same cannot be said for their opponents. Senator Vynnette Frederick for example, a former senator for the NDP, has faced the full force of the law.
Just hours after she was cleared of charges in 2013, Vynnette was arrested whilst sitting at lunch by police, who did not identify themselves initially. They did not produce any warrant issued from the High Court for her arrest, or any document whatsoever from any court. Yet she was arrested.
Eventually the charges she was accused of turned out to be variations of the ones that had been dismissed from the court just hours earlier.
Yet when it comes to Senator Morgan and her alleged accomplices, what have we seen? A Prime Minister who is trying to sway public opinion and a Speaker trying to silence opposition.
Furthermore the investigation into Senator Morgan, what’s become of that? Nothing that we’ve heard. Radio silence from this Government. They get away with it and opposition gets punished.
Let’s not pretend either that it isn’t a serious crime, they stand accused of holding someone up at gunpoint. At gunpoint!
It doesn’t get more serious than attempted murder.
The corruption in this country literally threatens people’s lives and safety. It seems that the only way to guarantee your safety in this country is to be a ULP supporter. That’s not justice, that’s not equality before the law, that’s corruption.
At Get Rid Ah Dem we are here to stand up for what’s right and we know that’s not right. You know this isn’t right. ULP supporters know this isn’t right. We must stand up and defy them.
