2021: The Year of 7 Gas Price Increases

2021 has been a bad year for Vincy people. A Government elected by working people for working people has overseen some of the most dramatic price increases that we have ever seen and just ignores the impact it is having.

Our gas prices have increased 7 times this year. Here’s every time they have risen over the course of 2021:

  1. Monday 22 March- From $10.50 to $11.25 (Change of $0.75).
  2. Tuesday 25 May- From $11.25 to $12.15 (Change of $0.90).
  3. Monday 5 July- From $12.15 to $13.20 (Change of $1.05).
  4. Monday 9 August- From $13.20 to $13.40 (Change of $0.20)
  5. Monday 6 September- From $13.40 to $13.75 (Change of $0.35).
  6. Friday 1 October- From $13.75 to $14.00 (Change of $0.25).
  7. Monday 25 October- From $14.00 to $14.17 (Change of $0.17).

What these numbers indicate is that not only have our petrol prices increased by $4.17 over the course of 6 months but that our lives are becoming more expensive and the cost of living is becoming too much.

We elected a Gonsalves Government because they have always promised to look out for working people. Their brand of politics has always been to help those in need and bridge the gap between the wealthy and the poor. But they are failing. Our unemployment continues to grow, especially as we emerge from the pandemic, customs prices have increased and now even just dropping your kids at school is becoming more expensive.

The Gonsalves Government has lost sight of why it was elected in the first place. It’s time we now got rid ah dem, they can no longer claim to be the party of the working people because it’s the working people who are hurt the most by their policies.
