On Thursday 18th November, Magistrate Bertie Pompey dismissed the trial of Senator Ashelle Morgan and Karim Nelson, which comes after the magistrate denied an application by the prosecution for a final witness for the Crown.
The lawyers of the defence – who have received the support of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves – asked the court to rule that the prosecution has not put forward a case, despite significant evidence being put forward, which has subsequently been rejected by the Court.
Prosecutor S. Stephen Brette made an application to summon Vernon Adams who is alleged to have been present at the scene of the crime where Cornelius John was shot, however it was denied by the court. Why?
Furthermore, when wife of Cornelius, Ms John, began giving evidence of her recount which was objected to when the defence said the evidence had not been disclosed to, which coincidently did not fit with Senator Morgan’s story.
The recent developments in the case call to question the integrity of the justice system and whether or not justice will take place for the crimes committed.
Not only has the Gonsalves Government been supporting a Senator that shot a constituent, but the trial has also been riddled with inconsistencies and failed attempts to conceal the truth.
The latest evidence further proves that an innocent man was shot and the great extent to which the Government is willing to go to cover it up.
This is not the government the people asked for – it is time to get rid ah dem!
