THE DEVASTATING TOLL OF GONSALVES’ MANDATE

The COVID-19 vaccine mandate – which could see some of our crucial government workers – lose their job if they are not vaccinated – is impacting the core services across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Last Friday, teachers at West St. George Secondary School staged a “sit-in” against the mandate, with all but three teachers sitting in the staff room for the day.

The protest was against the mandate that could see all non-vaccinated teachers lose their job, leaving our children without education and acted as a reminder to the Gonsalves Government what the school system would look like without teachers.

Meanwhile Antigua has taken a compassionate approach to save their kids’ education and country’s security by rolling back their vaccine mandate.

Not only does the mandate risk the livelihoods of our teachers, port workers and the nation’s security forces are amongst a group of workers that risk losing their job if they do not get the jab. This means that not only could our children face a lack of teaching resources, we face the reality of chaos at our ports and put our nation’s security at risk.

The Gonsalves Government knew what could come as a result of its mandate and has chosen to go through with it, with little to no regard of the consequences it could mean for our country.
