Teachers that have been banned from the classroom deserve to be reinstated with an apology from the ULP Government.
In November 2021, the government stopped unvaccinated teachers from doing their jobs – depriving them of their livelihood and children of their education.
The ULP is still yet to provide any firm assurances that teachers will get their jobs back with full benefits, instead using vague language to suggest Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves is “considering” rehiring teachers.
Meanwhile major public events have taken place, including the cricket and carnival, where people have been mixing with no restrictions, making policy preventing teachers doing their job absurd.
Many teachers have remained without an income despite hundreds of people – including teachers and children – mixing and moving around freely during the carnival season, while children have missed sections of their education, which is critical in providing them with the opportunities they need to thrive in their future.
There is clearly no good reason for the injustice of these people being put out of bread. Anything other than a full apology and these teachers being reinstated with full benefits is a slap in the face.
The ULP Government has shown a complete lack of care, compassion, and recognition to the hardships it has put our teachers through unnecessarily. It makes no sense that we can have hundreds of people free of restrictions during carnival season but we cannot support our teachers who are vital to educating our children.
